NOTEWORTHY NOVEMBER – Workout Wednesday: “I don’t enjoy it…”

I bet there will be many of us feeling this way over the next couple of weeks…

Reasons you may not “feel” like working out may be:

  • Image result for junk foodYou are tired
  • You have not fueled your body properly (poor food choices)
  • There are many temptations to do something else you love
  • No one else is pursuing fitness
  • It’s COLD outside
  • Netflix and chill just sounds better
  • There are a million other things that “need” to get done
  • There is not enough time
  • You don’t want to have to take another shower
  • It will inconvenience someone
  • You finally have a chance to relax
  • You figure you can start working out later
  • It’s the holidays
  • etc…………………………………………..

Did I name yours? Forget yours (if I did comment below with it!)?

Okay… readers… I have something to tell you… you may NEVER “feel” like working out… at some point you just have to commit to being disciplined and do it. I’m not saying you need to do anything extreme. I am an advocate of just doing SOMETHING. Can you do 10 minutes of exercise, three times a day, four days of the week? Being active is so crucial to your mental and physical well-being. And spiritually, it helps you to know that you are glorifying God by using your body in the way He intended it to be used… ACTIVELY (seriously… the design of our bodies was not meant for sitting and watching movies!)

Let’s list some of the other things we don’t “feel” like doing… dishes, laundry, cleaning the toilet, picking up dog poop, going to the grocery store, shoveling the driveway, cooking dinner, getting up to take care of kids in the middle of the night, going to the dentist, going to work, paperwork, signing up for insurance, listening to authority, stopping at stop signs…

Are you catching my point??? There are plenty of things we don’t “feel” like doing, but we suck it up and do it anyway because it needs to be done. Why don’t we believe that exercise is a necessary component of our life? Yes we can get through many years of life without exercise, but the quality and length of life is decreased and our able-ness is diminished.

So… when you don’t “feel” like working out… try these things to reach 30 minutes in a day. You can do them all at once or spread them out over the day committing to 10 minutes three times a day.

First Set:
1 minute on each exercise and repeat the circuit.
*Regular push-ups (can go on knees)
*Tricep push-ups (make a triangle with your thumbs and index fingers and bend elbows outward)
*Plank (elbow or fully extended arms)
*Wide leg push-ups (instead of feet close together, spread them out)
*Dolphins (get in an elbow plank and push on your forearms, flexing your abs to lift up your booty so you are in an upside-down V shape)

Second Set:
*Walk for 10 minutes

Third Set:
1 minute on each exercise and repeat the circuit.*Regular crunches (make sure you are tucking in those abs!)
*Supermans (lay on stomach, flex back, lift arms and legs and hold for 5 seconds)
*Side plank raises (do a side plank, lower and raise your hips using your obliques; make sure your shoulder is stable; for your 2nd minute, do other side)
*Scissor kicks (lay on your back and alternate lowering and raising each leg; one is up while the other is down; never let your leg rest on the floor to keep abs engaged)
*Plank and tuck your knee in and extend it straight back (keep back straight; do other leg 2nd time around)

Can you do it?! Let me know if you tried it out! Comment below.
